Eating salads can hinder weight loss.

by Hon Lee on March 4, 2013

Ever go to a restaurant with a salad bar and notice that many overweight people fill their plates up with food they think will help them lose weight? They eat iceberg lettuce, cucumbers, carrots, and other cold vegetables. They use diet dressing and wash down their food with an ice cold diet soda.

But even though their meal is low in calories, they can seem to shed any pounds. That's because, according to Chinese medicine theory, raw foods are hard to digest and cold foods and drinks weaken the body's digestive system.  The Spleen/Pancreas need a warm and dry environment to process the food and drink we consume efficiently into energy, blood and body fluids.

Raw foods and cold drinks weaken our digestive system that results in excess dampness-moisture in the body.  Because our bodies are naturally warm, over time, this excess dampness-moisture congeals into phlegm that can manifest as excess fat.
