Nasal Congestion? Add these to your diet!

by Hon Lee on June 3, 2014

Add some bitter and pungent flavors to your diet if you suffer from sinus and allergy problems. According to Chinese medicine, bitter flavors are descending in nature and can take care of pathogens and infections. Bitter melon is a favorite ingredient in many Chinese recipes. And pungent flavors boost Qi. Turmeric, which is both pungent and bitter, is said to kill parasites. Bitter flavors are present in coffee, chocolate, and greens. But hold off on munching down on too many dark chocolates!  Pungent flavors also help build Qi, and include oregano, dill, fennel, fenugreek, ginger, cardamom, rosemary, garlic, onions, and grapefruit seed extract. Pungent flavors balance out the damp, heavy foods that are typically found in an American diet.
